Arab Lawyers Association – Terms and Conditions of Use
1 | Who we are and how these Terms apply
Arab lwyers Ltd (company number 11957700) is a private company limited by guarantee without share capital, registered in England & Wales. We trade as the Arab Lawyers Association (“ALA”, “we”, “our”, “us”).
These Terms and Conditions of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of www.arablawyersassociation.co.uk and any microsites, event-registration pages or digital services we operate (collectively, the “Site”). They form a binding contract between you and us. By using the Site you agree to comply with these Terms and our Privacy Policy (together, the “Policies”). If you do not accept them, you must not use the Site.
2 | Changes to these Terms
We may amend these Terms from time to time to reflect legal or operational changes. The “last updated” date below tells you when the latest revision took effect. We will post any material change on the Site or notify you by email (if you are a member). Your continued use of the Site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
3 | Purpose of the Site
Founded in 2018, the ALA is the leading global organisation for the Arab legal profession. Our objectives include promoting and developing the global Arab legal profession, offering professional-development and networking opportunities, supporting aspiring lawyers, working with justice-sector organisations, championing diversity and maintaining political and religious neutrality.
The Site provides information, event booking, networking tools and other resources in support of those objectives. Nothing on the Site is legal advice, creates a lawyer-client relationship or should be relied on as a substitute for competent professional advice.
4 | Eligibility and registration
-
The Site is intended for users aged 16 or over. By using it you confirm that you meet this requirement.
-
Creating a membership profile is currently free and you must provide accurate and up-to-date information.
-
We may suspend, restrict or terminate your membership, or block access to the Site, if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms or any laws.
5 | Event registrations, paid services and future membership tiers
The ALA presently operates a free membership model, but we reserve the right to charge fees for certain services, such as event tickets, premium programmes or future paid membership tiers. Any applicable price, payment method, cancellation right or additional terms will be made clear at the point of purchase and will prevail over these general Terms in the event of conflict.
6 | Acceptable use
You agree not to:
-
use the Site for unlawful, defamatory, obscene, harassing or fraudulent purposes;
-
upload or transmit viruses, malicious code or data-scraping tools;
-
interfere with or disrupt the Site or the servers and networks that host it;
-
attempt to gain unauthorised access to any portion of the Site, other accounts or computer systems;
-
impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation;
-
infringe any intellectual-property, privacy or publicity rights;
-
collect or harvest any personally identifiable information of other users;
-
post content that is not your own or that you lack the necessary rights to share; or
-
engage in any conduct that, in our sole judgment, restricts or inhibits anyone else’s use or enjoyment of the Site.
7 | User-generated content
If you submit or post content (including text, images, video or audio) you:
-
warrant that it is accurate, lawful, non-confidential and does not violate any third-party rights;
-
retain ownership of your content but grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence (with the right to sub-license) to use, reproduce, display, distribute and adapt it for the purposes of operating, promoting and archiving the Site and ALA activities; and
-
acknowledge that we may remove or disable any content that breaches these Terms or is otherwise objectionable.
8 | Intellectual-property rights
All content and materials on the Site, including text, graphics, photographs, video, audio, software, design and layout, are either owned by us or licensed to us and are protected by UK and international copyright, trade-mark and database-right laws.
The names “Arab Lawyers Association” and our logo are protected by UK trade-mark registrations. You may not use them (or any confusingly similar mark) without our prior written consent.
You may view and print content for your personal, non-commercial use only, and you are permitted to share our content on social media platforms. Any other use, including reproduction, modification, distribution, extraction or republication, requires our express permission.
9 | Third-party links and services
The Site may contain links or integrations to third-party websites, tools or resources (including sponsors, research providers and social-media platforms). We have no control over, and are not responsible for, their content, availability, security or privacy practices. Accessing any third-party resource is at your own risk.
10 | Privacy and cookies
Our collection and use of personal data are governed by our Privacy Policy. By using the Site, you acknowledge our Privacy Policy.
11 | Disclaimers and availability
The Site is provided “as is” and “as available”. While we endeavour to keep it up to date and secure, we do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or free from harmful components. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement.
12 | Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot legally be limited.
Subject to that, we shall not be liable, whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise, for any:
-
loss of profits, revenue, business, contracts or anticipated savings;
-
loss or corruption of data;
-
loss of goodwill; or
-
indirect or consequential loss,
arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the Site or its content, even if foreseeable.
Our total aggregate liability to you for all other loss or damage arising in connection with the Site shall not exceed £100 or, if you have paid for a particular service or event, the amount you actually paid for it.
13 | Your indemnity to us
You agree to indemnify us and hold us harmless, including our directors, officers, employees, volunteers and affiliates, from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Site.
14 | Termination and suspension
We may suspend or terminate your account and/or access to the Site immediately, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms, the Policies or any applicable law. On termination, all rights granted to you under these Terms will cease, but clauses intended by their nature to survive (including intellectual-property, liability and governing-law provisions) shall continue in effect.
15 | Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms and any dispute or claim (including non-contractual claims) arising out of or in connection with them are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
16 | Miscellaneous
-
If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force.
-
No waiver of any breach is a waiver of any other breach.
-
You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign our rights to any successor organisation.
-
These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Site and supersede all prior understandings.
